Queensland successful at 2008 Australian Championships,
Wodonga
(posted Feb-2008)
For the first time in many years, Queensland (57.02% of sets
won) narrowly won the Teams Trophy from New Zealand (56.25%)
and Victoria (55.46%). Four Queensland teams won their
respective Divisions and in at least two Divisions, the finals
were contested between two Qld teams.

In the individual events of the second week, two
Queenslanders won singles titles. Chris O'Mara won the
40+ Mens Singles while Peter Froelich won the 70+ event.
Both players also won their respective age group doubles
title, albeit with partners from another State or another
country.
Graham Brown and Alan Hocking proved a formidable
combination, winning both the 75+ Mens Doubles title and the
150+ Combined Mens Doubles title. In both closely
contested finals, their adversaries were Neville
Langford, also from Queensland, and Max Byrne from Tasmania.
Not to be outdone by the men, Joy Rigter from the Gold Coast teamed
with Margaret Harrigan from the ACT to win the 130+ Combined
Womens Doubles title.
