Queensland Teams for the Australian
Championships in Perth

The
Queensland Teams for the Australian
Championships to be held in Perth in January
2012 have now been announced. A total of
eight men's teams and six womens teams will be
competing against teams from other States on the
Perth grass courts from January 9 - 13.

Queensland has lost another of its
characters - Jim Adam

With
his colourful clothing and mis-matched socks,
Jim Adam was a man not to be missed, but he will
be. The affable cabbie, cyclist, tennis player
and dedicated Rotarian died suddenly on Monday
during a charity trip to the Solomon Islands.
To many Seniors tennis players, Jim was the face
of the Sunshine Coast Seniors Tennis tournament.
Mr Adam is survived by his wife Robyn, daughters
Barbara, Helen and Kat, and their husbands and
children.

Summary of the TSQ Annual General Meeting

The
TSQ Annual General Meeting was held on the 18
September 2011 at Tewantin Tennis Club.
Phil Waight was re-elected as TSQ President
while John Rivers was elected as his deputy.
Michael Russell has taken on the Treasury role.
The State Women's selectors remain the same
(Donna Walker, Joy Rigter, Janelle Spittle),
while Warren Arnell, Gary Thompson and John S
Walker have taken on the roles as Men's
selectors.

Tribute to Kaye Wyvill

One
of our State's most delightful personalities,
Kaye Wyvill, passed away on 12 August 2011 at
the age of 67 after many months of treatment in
and out of hospital.
Ed Dodd, a sometimes doubles partner of Kaye in
various tournaments prepared a poem in Kaye’s
memory and agreed to share it with us...

in Murgon (synthetic grass).

ITF Sunshine Coast Seniors Championships will be
held at Tewantin over 16-19 September. Closing
date for entries is 1st September.
The Brisbane Seniors
Claycourt Tournament will be held at Ipswich
over 29-30 October. Closing date for
entries is 15th October.

Tennis Association Inc. tennis centre, cnr James

Seniors Qld is calling for nominations for teams
to represent Queensland at the 2012 Tennis
Seniors Australia Championships. The Teams
event will be held from 9 to 13 January and
Individual events will be held from 15 to 20
January. There has been some accommodation
arranged at the Edith Cowan University.

Entry Form for Qld Tennis Seniors Claycourt Titles
now available

Entry
forms for the 2011 TSQ Claycourt Seniors
Championships are now available. The tournament
runs from 5th to 8th August and is to be held
primarily at the George Alder Tennis Centre in
Ipswich. All singles events will be held on
claycourts and begin on the morning of Friday
5th August.

International Player Identification Number (IPIN) for 2012

The IPIN will be a requirement for players participating in all sanctioned ITF tournaments from January, 2012. If players register with the ITF between mid May and the 31st October, 2011 the IPIN will be FREE for the 2012 year. Players who register from the 1st November will pay $US20 for the 2012 year.

State Government sponsoring Qld Tennis Seniors Claycourt Titles

The Qld Dept of Communities has agreed to support the Tennis Seniors Clay Court Titles to be held in August at the George Alder Centre in Ipswich. It is part of a “Seniors Week” initiative by the State Government to promote positive attitudes towards older people and encourage older people to lead active lifestyles.

Free Coaching Clinics at Gold Coast Tennis Club

By courtesy of a Government grant, the Gold Coast Seniors Tennis Club has run a series of free tennis coaching clinics over a period of 8 weeks. These clinics are intended for anyone in the community who may has played tennis in the past and who has ceased playing because of injury or illness and now want to return to the game, and for people who have never played the game and would like to take it up.

Queensland's ITF Seniors Tournaments for 2011

Queensland now has three ITF Seniors Tennis Tournaments each year. These include the Tennis Seniors Queensland Championships (1-4 July, Gold Coast), the TSQ Claycourt Championships (5-8 August, Ipswich) and the TSQ Sunshine Coast Seniors Championships (16-19 September, Tewantin).

The 2011 Tennis Seniors Queensland State Championships are to be held from July 1 - 4 at the Gold Coast Seniors Tennis Club, 24 Pizzey Drive, Mermaid Waters (off Oceanic Drive) & neighbouring centres. The court surface is synthetic grass. The closing date for entries in June 16.

Congratulations to AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY who won their first Teams Trophy at the recent 2011 Australian Tennis Seniors Teams Championships held at Newcastle. Queensland were not disgraced, finishing a close second.
