For those players who have already
nominated, or are thinking about
nominating, for Queensland Seniors Teams
playing in the Australian Teams Carnival
in Hobart in January 2014, now is the
time to prepare. 1. Get your
nomination form in to the TSQ
Secretary (Coral). 2. First-time
participants (men
order form &
womens order form) will need the
official TSQ uniform which can be
ordered from Coral . 3. We now have
an official TSQ cap ($15) which can also
be ordered from Coral (07 3349 4339).
Tribute to the late Neville Halligan OAM – a
great Australian

Neville Halligan, a much-loved icon of
Seniors tennis in Australia and abroad,
passed away peacefully on September 18
in Brisbane, aged 91.
Neville
represented Australia 16 times between
1992 and 2011 and was awarded an OAM for
his services to Seniors Tennis. He won
3 consecutive World singles titles – a
feat not accomplished by any other
Australian, and also won 2 World doubles
titles.
Mentally alert to the
end, he was still monitoring the results
of the Australians currently playing in
the Super Senior World Championships in
Austria and the Czech Republic.
Notice is hereby given that the
Tennis Seniors Queensland AGM will be
held at Tewantin Tennis Club on Sunday
22 September at 6.30pm (or close of
play). All members invited to attend.
Queensland Claycourt Championships a great
success

The weather was superb for the
recent TSQ Claycourt Championships in
Ipswich and a number of our
Super-Seniors used the claycourt
championships to get some important
practice on the clay before heading
overseas to the Czech Republic and
Austria next month to compete in the ITF
World Championships.

wishing to nominate for Queensland Teams
to attend the Australian Teams Carnival
to be held in Hobart from 12-17 January
2014.
Toowoomba and District Veterans Annual Tennis Tournament

The annual Toowoomba and District Veterans Tournament will be held over 5-7 October at the Tennis Centre, cnr James and Water Streets, Toowoomba.
16 October. Entries close on 29th
September, 2013.
Brisbane Seniors Claycourt Tournament,
October 2013

Brisbane Seniors Tennis Club will
be conducting
a claycourt tournament for Seniors at
the George Alder Tennis Centre in
Ipswich on the 26-27 October, 2013.
Entries are now open and will close on
16 October.
Tennis Seniors Queensland will be
conducting the annual Sunshine
Coast Seniors
Championships (ITF Grade 3) in Tewantin on the
20-23 September, 2013. Entries are now
open and will close on 28 August.
Gladstone
District Tennis Association
will be holding their annual Seniors
Tournament in Gladstone on the 10-11
August, 2013. Entries are now open and
will close on 3rd August.
Murgon and District Tennis Association
will be holding their annual Seniors
Tournament in Murgon on the 24-25
August, 2013. Entries are now open and
will close on 19 August.
Please note that, due to unforseen
circumstances, the Coolum Seniors
tournament will not go ahead this
year.
Tennis Qld State Seniors “Come and Try day”

Tennis Queensland has a wonderful
initiative planned for Sunday 9th June –
a Seniors “Come and Try day”. Over 25
clubs have now signed on to run the
event at their venue. Information and
posters have been made available to all
participating clubs, and the day will
also be supported by community radio and
television promotion. Media releases
will be issued prior to the day to local
media contacts.
The University of Queensland Open
tournament are now holding 35 to 60 Mens
and Ladies singles and doubles events
(Nat.6 TSA National Ranking Tournament).
The event is held over three consecutive
weekends from 20 July to 4 August.
Entries are now open.

Entry forms for the TSQ Claycourt
Championships are now available. The
tournament will be held over four days from the 9th - 12th August at the George
Alder Tennis Centre in Ipswich.
Closing date for entries is Wednesday
24th July.

filling up fast. The best central

with accommodation and attraction

University Accommodation option available in
Hobart in January

TSQ has received information from Hobart
Travel Centre about University
accommodation during the Australian
Teams Carnival next January. At present
the university has single rooms (share
bathroom) and 6 bedroom apartments (with
own bathroom) available. Twin and double
rooms (share bathroom) availability will
not be known until June-July when
students in those rooms advise whether
they will be staying on over the summer
months.
The inaugural Great Barrier Reef Masters
Games, which will include tennis, will
be held in Cairns from the 8th to 11th
August. If anyone is interested you are
invited to make enquiries by visiting
their
web site.

accommodation during the Australian
Teams Carnival next January. At present

A Reminder to those with IPIN numbers...

This is a reminder to all
players/members with IPIN numbers that
they must update their on-line profile
if ever they change their email address.
You will need to go onto the
ITF Seniors web site to log in and
make the changes. Players not
updating their own profiles will be
missing out on important information
sent out by the ITF and TSA. .
The 2013 Tennis Seniors
Queensland State Championships
(ITF Cat 2) are
to be held from June 28 - July 1 at the Gold
Coast Seniors Tennis Club, 24 Pizzey
Drive, Mermaid Waters (off Oceanic
Drive) & neighbouring centres. The court
surface is synthetic grass. The closing
date for entries in June 12. A
players dinner will be held on Sunday
night at the Gold Coast Seniors Club at 7pm. The cost is
$25pp and bookings are essential.
The 2013 Hervey Bay Seniors Tennis
Tournament (Nat 7) will be held from
12-14 July, 2013 at the courts at 79
Colyton Street Torquay. Closing date is
7 July. Entry forms are now available.
Gold Coast Seniors Tournament entry forms now available

Tournament (Nat 6) will be held from 4-6
May, 2013 at the Gold Coast Tennis
Club, Miami. Closing date is 22
April. Entry forms are now available.
Sunshine Coast Tournament entry forms now available

The 2013 Sunshine Coast Veterans
Tournament (Nat 6) will be held from 19
to 21 April at various centres around
Nambour. Closing date is 12 April. Entry forms are
now available.
The 43rd Annual ACT Seniors Tennis
Tournament comprising ITF Grade 3
Championships (players must have an IPIN
to enter) and non-IPIN Round Robin
events will be held from 29 March to 1
April, 2013 at the Weston Creek Tennis
Club in the ACT. Entry forms are
now available.
Entry forms for the Gympie Seniors
Tournament are now available to
download. The tournament is held at
Queens Park and the Reg English centres
in Gympie from the 15 to the 17 March.

Australian Teams Championships

At the recent Australian Teams Carnival
dinner in Perth, Queenslands
long-serving secretary Coral Vickers was
recognised with the Award of Tennis
Seniors Australia Administrator of the
Year for 2012.
